Pre-K Admissions

In free, full-day, high-quality pre-K, teachers are sparking wonder and igniting learning in our children. Pre-K for All gives children stronger math and reading skills in elementary school and a better chance at success in life. Studies show that early childhood education improves performance throughout a child’s school experience.

In these high-quality programs, children are in a safe learning environment with many opportunities to explore, create, and participate in engaging learning activities and to interact with other children and adults. Programs build on the strengths and diverse backgrounds children and families bring to the classroom to support all learners in gaining foundations for success in school, at home, and in life.

Pre-K for All runs five days per week from September to June. Most pre-K options are on a full-day schedule (6 hours and 20 minutes). Some 5-hour and half-day (2 hours and 30 minutes) options are also available.

Kindergarten Admissions

Welcome to Kindergarten Admissions!

Kindergarten offer letters are usually sent to families around the January deadline. If you haven't already accepted your offer, contact the school where your child got an offer. Depending on seat availability, you will either be able to pre-register and accept your offer or join the school's waitlist.

In New York City, children are eligible to apply to kindergarten in the year they turn five. Each winter, Kindergarten applications are accepted for the coming school year and every child is guaranteed a Kindergarten placement.

All schools are expected to serve the majority of special education students in their community, and all schools are required to provide, at minimum, English as a New Language (ENL) programs to their English Language Learners.
